Consultation
A free consultation is typically recommended as a first step in getting familiar with our clinic. This 30 minute session provides time to screen any areas of concern and determine appropriate recommendations. This consultation could result in a follow up in later months, a home program, or testing. The meeting time provides an opportunity to discuss funding sources (district, insurance, regional center, self pay) and to review any previous evaluations and reports. It also provides an opportunity to make sure the child’s needs are a fit for our skill set as well as the opportunity for the family to determine if our clinic is the right place for their child.
Speech and Language Evaluation
A speech and language evaluation is scheduled when it is determined that a full evaluation is necessary by either client report or clinician recommendation during the initial consultation. An initial evaluation is essentially a roadmap to determine exact areas of strength and weakness allowing the clinician to establish appropriate goals for treatment. The evaluation results drive the recommendation for treatment, how often treatment should be given and what is to be completed during the treatment sessions. Assessment is generally completed in the areas of speech articulation, motor planning, oral motor, fluency, voice, receptive language, expressive language, however testing varies greatly depending on the age of the client. Full evaluation testing typically lasts 2-3 hours and subsequently, a full report is completed. The cost includes a meeting to review the results.
Speech Or Language Only Evaluation
A speech or language only evaluation is scheduled when it is determined that only one area is delayed by either client report or clinician recommendation during the initial consultation. An initial evaluation is essentially a roadmap to determine exact areas of strength and weakness allowing the clinician to establish appropriate goals for treatment. The evaluation results drive the recommendation for treatment, how often treatment should be given and what is to be completed during the treatment sessions. Goal Report
At the minimum, a goal report is required to begin services at this office. A goal report, as opposed to an evaluation report may be recommended when the client has been tested for speech and/or language by another Speech Language Pathologist within the last 12 months and does not require an additional evaluation. Often times, reports have been completed by educational facilities such as school districts and these reports are not medical and will not be accepted by insurance. This is a medical report that serves to accept previous findings and summarizes goals based on testing completed at another facility.
